Gary Carbon Art

Photography is an interest of mine and I use it as part of my creative process. I’ve been lucky to work some great models that have really helped me flesh out my concepts - adding their skills and creativity to make the final illustrations even better. Sometimes the shots themselves as so good, I don’t see the point of making an illustration from it. The top row shots are photos like that; the others are outtakes.

In terms of costumes, I put them together. In bringing a character to life, I try to find real world translations for costume elements. I’ve even worked with tailors to get something exactly what I wanted. The rest of the parts are generally are assembled from online auctions. If I could put it together, then so could the characters… I think that gives my illustrations an interesting realistic aspect.
